Bomba y Plena Youth Workshop

Starting in the year 2000, the Bay Area Bomba y Plena workshop has existed for 16 years. It has provided youth and adults a deep connection with Puerto Rican culture and tradition, and has been a center for community to gather. This video tells of the workshop's humble beginnings, it's vision, and how it continues to develop roots to the Island and the Puerto Rican people.

In the Bomba y Plena Workshops, students learn songs, dances, rhythms, and beats along with bomba and plena history, and their significance and place in Puerto Rican and Afro-Caribbean culture. Students also learn how to play cuás, barriles (drums), maracas.

Workshops meet at La Peña Cultural Center, from September to June.
